The 8200 acres which have been designated as the Backcountry Wilderness Area is more than Chatfield and Cherry Creek state parks combined. Nearly all of the Backcountry Wilderness Area will permanently be set aside to preserve open space, enhance wildlife habitat and enable outdoor recreation.
