Nature Camp

Base Camp is just the beginning for our Nature Campers (ages 7-13)! Whether it’s their first introduction to the outdoors or they are a certified wild child, our Nature Camp sessions give campers opportunities to hike, build, create, explore, and adventure … all in the fresh summer air.

Nature Camp Voyagers – Ages 9-10

Session 1

Nature's Engineers:
Test your engineering know-how with daily building challenges. We will use nature as an inspiration to build anything and everything you could dream up—giant forts, bird's nests, bridges, and catapults!

Session 2

Mon 6/3 - Fri 6/7

Insect Investigators:
Come discover more about the critters that outnumber humans 200 million to one! We’ll search deep in the forest, fields, and ponds for insects. Don’t miss out, this week is going to be the bees-knees!

Session 3

Walk on the Wild Side:
Come hang out with wild animal ambassadors, test out your newly-learned navigation skills to help your group get out of the depths of the Backcountry, and explore everything wild.

Session 4

Lab Rats:
Throw on your safety goggles because things are about to get messy! From water rockets to edible science experiments, this week is sure to keep even the most experienced young scientists on their toes.

Hunters and Gatherers:
This week, campers will connect with the natural world through tracking, stalking, archery, foraging for edible plants, and outdoor cooking. Come find your tribe at Camp Backcountry!

Mysteries of the Backcountry:
Campers will get to investigate things that blow up and things that ooze, hear stories told by a professional storyteller, and see the Douglas County Search and Rescue K-9 team at work.

Climate Pirates:
This week will take you charting new territories, sailing through your imagination, and surveying the land and its abundant resources. Sail ho, Climate Pirates! Chart your course for innovation and adventure

The Great Forest Escape:
Tick tock! The clock is running and on Monday morning the entire camp will be faced with a riddle. Every challenge that is successfully completed, from tracking animals to learning archery, will bring us one step closer to completing this camp-wide forest escape experience.

Colo-RAD-o Rocks!:
In this adventure filled week, we will scramble around the caves at the rocky overlook and explore the landscape of the Backcountry. Don’t take this week for Granite, it’s going to rock!

Session 10

Survival Challenge:
Pack up your survival gear with your group each morning at Base Camp before moving out into the forest to problem solve different scenarios and challenges. You will work in a close community to learn how to survive in, and connect with, nature.
