HRCA Going Green

The HRCA continues to find opportunities to make the four recreation centers more energy efficient.

The HRCA is Going Green

Here are some of the ways in which HRCA is making a difference for the health of our environment:

  • Installation of efficient water heating systems
  • Use water saving devices for toilets, urinals, sinks, and showers
  • Use solar panels at the Recreation Centers at Eastridge and Westridge
  • Purchase and lease hybrid vehicles
  • Program the energy efficient HVAC units to heat and cool at specific times and areas as needed. Also, installed thermal equalizing fans.
  • Use energy efficient lighting fixtures and bulbs. Use motion sensors and program lighting for more efficiency.
  • Recycle electronics, paper, plastics, light bulbs, dry cell batteries, and aluminum
  • Use mulching mowers
  • Use computerized weather based irrigation controllers for landscapes
  • Maintain a ColoradoScape demonstration garden at Eastridge
  • Maintain native grasses around the Recreation Center at Southridge
  •  "Just read it, don't print it" has become standard practice at the HRCA, and when practical, many documents are saved electronically.
