Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is recommended. Jeans often restrict movement and tights tend to make children slip. Bare feet and ponytails are encouraged.

To Cancel a Class Call 303-471-8818. All refunds are charged a minimum $5 processing fee. Refunds and class transfers must be requested at least five days prior to the beginning of the class. Refunds are issued back to the participant in the original tender when possible. Refunds are not issued for inclement weather. 

Child is Sick? Please be considerate of other participants. Do not bring your child to class if they do not feel well. There are no credits or make-up classes for missed classes.

Pickleball Class Guide: Find Your Level

Use this guide based on Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR) and International Federation of Pickleball (IFP) ratings to choose the right class:

Beginner (IFP 1.0–2.0 | New / No DUPR)

Just starting with minimal understanding of the game.

·       Learning rules, scoring, and basic court positioning.

·       Introduction to strokes and simple rallies.

Best for: First-time players.

Classes: Intro To Pickleball, PB Beginner 1, Indoor Leagues Beginner 1 Instructional, Socials

Beginner 2 (IFP 2.0–2.5 | DUPR ~2.0–2.75)

Limited experience with early rally skills.

·       Can sustain short rallies with similar players.

·       Basic scoring and developing consistency.

·       Introduction to dinking and net play.

Best for: Players building confidence and control.

Classes: PB Beginner 2, Indoor League – Beginner 2 Instructional, Socials

Intermediate (IFP 2.5–3.5 | DUPR 2.75–3.5)

·       Building consistency and understanding of the full game.

·       Medium-paced shots but inconsistent direction/control.

·       Learning backhand use, dink rallies, and 3rd shot drop.

·       Developing court positioning and movement to the NVZ.

·       Beginning to vary between soft and hard games.

Best for: Players progressing toward reliable rallies and strategy and match play.

Classes: PB Intermediate 1, Intermediate Skills & Drills, Intermediate Instructional League, Intermediate League, Socials

Advanced (IFP 3.5+ | DUPR 3.5+)

·       Consistent, strategic, and competitive play.

·       Controlled forehand/backhand with improved depth and placement.

·       Developing 3rd shot drop and transitioning effectively to the net.

·       Understanding team movement, shot selection, and game patterns.

·       Beginning to identify opponent weaknesses and apply tactics.

Best for: League and tournament players (3.5–4.0+)

Classes: Advanced Skills and Drills – 3.5, Socials

Pickleball Socials (Evening/midday, King/Queen of Court):  are intended to include all levels of play.

HRCA private lessons allow players 8+ the opportunity to arrange both private and semi-private group lessons.

Indoor pickleball courts are set-up in the Northridge and Southridge gyms weekly, and now there are six outdoor pickleball courts at Westridge. Pickleball is a cross between tennis, badminton, and ping pong played with a paddle and a whiffle ball; come see how easy and fun it is to play.

The HRCA 2026 Adult League Registration will begin January 5, 2026. Please read all the information provided BEFORE completing an application. Failure to complete the correct application can lead to lengthy and potentially functional delays in your application.

It is critical to note for the 2026 year that a spot or team placement is not guaranteed, as it is subject to availability and demand. While we prioritize returning teams, final placement will depend on the overall league and facility capacity. Separate forms are required for each priority league, and the priority timeframe is limited due to the high demand for team locations in Metro Denver.

 Priority Registration:

• 1/5/2026 – 1/21/2026 (9 am to 11:59 pm)
• Must add note of league and captain name in 2025 season to Priority
• Teams that played with us in 2025 (with the same team captain) for the league they are requesting, and at the same facility, will have priority for the 2026 season. If a different location is requested, it can be considered but not guaranteed.
• Please note that priority in one league does not grant priority in others. For example, if a team only participated in the 18+ league in 2025 and now wishes to join the 40+ league, this would require submitting a "new team" application.
• If your team moved up or down in NTRP levels, you would still retain priority, but in the "B" category. NTRP teams that remain on the same night of play will retain their spots first. After that, we will move on to "B" priority teams for placement.

“B” Priority Registration

• 1/21/2026 9 am (open for season)
• Must add note of league and captain name in 2025 season to get B Priority
• Will be the teams that have participated before but are switching captains, locations, or levels.  
• This will also be for teams that participated for the first time in the 2025 season.
• We apologize for the inconvenience but due to the feedback about last year and having too many teams registered, we cannot guarantee everyone who played a spot in the 2024 season a spot.

“New Team” Registration

• 1/21/2026 9 am (open for season)
• A new team has either never played for HRCA or the specific league they are requesting.
• A new team can also be a prior captain from one league wanting to now do another team with us. The team is considered a new team.
• A separate form must be submitted for each league.
• We do not guarantee a spot with the submission of an application and do our best to respond in a timely fashion.

United States Tennis Association (USTA) Junior Team Tennis is a competitive team format providing kids and teens the many benefits of playing singles and doubles matches. All HRCA Youth Tennis Leagues are affiliated with the USTA.

• Age: 10-18
• Season: Summer
• Levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced
• Location: Northridge & Southridge
• Registration: Begins Wendesday, February 18, 2026 at 9:00am. 
• Schedule: teams practice twice a week with matches on Monday mornings.

Participant substitutions for drill and lesson sessions will not be allowed.

Drop-ins:

• Drop-ins are encouraged!
• Regular fees will be applied
• Sign-in is required at the Monitor Desk
• If a registered class/drill participant cannot make a class, they are  encouraged to solicit friends/family/program guests to take their spot as a “Drop-in” - not a “substitute”

Welcome new players, experienced players, and those returning to the sport. HRCA has 16 tennis courts, so come out and play!

The Northridge Indoor Pavilion and Southridge Outdoor Courts have been newly resurfaced. They look and play wonderfully. Let’s keep them that way! Please wear proper tennis shoes only. Non-tennis footwear may damage the courts, and patrons who do not comply risk losing access.

How do your skills measure up? United States Tennis Association (USTA) leagues utilize the National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) to classify tennis skill levels to place like-skill level players together. In order to play in any USTA Leagues or tournaments you must have a current NTRP rating. The HRCA uses these categories for lessons, drills, and other activities. Tennis lessons for beginning players are classified as "beginner."

2.5: player is learning to judge where the ball is going although court coverage is weak; can sustain a rally of slow pace with other players of the same ability.

3.0: player is consistent when hitting medium paced shots, but is not comfortable with all strokes and lacks control when trying for directional intent, depth or power.

3.5: player has achieved improved stroke dependability and direction on moderate shots, but still lacks depth and variety; starting to exhibit more aggressive net play, has improved court coverage, and is developing teamwork in doubles.

4.0: player has dependable strokes, including directional intent and depth on forehand, backhand, moderate shots, plus the ability to use lobs, overheads, approach shots, and volleys with some success; occasionally forces errors when serving and teamwork in doubles is evident.

4.5: player has begun to master the use of power and spins, is beginning to handle pace, has sound footwork, can control depth of shots, and is beginning to vary tactics according to opponents; can hit first serves with power and accuracy, places the second serve, and is able to rush the net successfully.
