Why Volunteer with HRCA?

HRCA relies on dedicated volunteers who bring diverse skills, experiences, and knowledge to our programs. Our volunteer team includes business leaders, community advocates, parents, teens, and neighbors who want to make a positive impact in Highlands Ranch.

Provide Leadership

Serve as a member of our Board of Directors, District Delegates, or Committees, helping guide HRCA and shape the future of our community.

Coach

Inspire young athletes by coaching a variety of youth sports teams. Share your love of the game while teaching teamwork, leadership, and confidence.

Extend a Hand

Work alongside staff in Therapeutic Recreation programs, helping children and adults with special needs enjoy inclusive activities and events.

Maintain

Join other volunteers in keeping the Backcountry Wilderness Area beautiful and safe. Activities include clearing brush, picking up trash, removing weeds, and patrolling trails.

Contribute

Be part of the excitement of our community races by assisting with registration, setup, cleanup, water stations, and cheering on participants.

Assist

From festivals to holiday celebrations, HRCA hosts some of Highlands Ranch’s most popular events. Volunteers help with setup, guest support, and clean-up to ensure every event is a success.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering is a great way to support and strengthen your community, meet new friends and neighbors, gain valuable leadership and service experience, and/or earn community service hours for school or court requirements

Requirements:

  • Must pass a background check before volunteering

  • Opportunities available for teens and adults:

    • Ages 14–15 (with a parent present)

    • Ages 16–17 (with parental consent)

    • Ages 18 and up

Minimum Commitment:

  • A regular volunteer day or schedule is preferred

  • Completion of at least a half-day of training (some positions may require more)

  • Opportunities available year-round, with the greatest need from May through August

  • Please note: a background check is mandatory for all Backcountry volunteer positions.

SUMMARY

The Tennis Program Volunteer will play a crucial role in enhancing participant experience by supporting the organization and execution of tennis programs, events, and activities outside of instructional roles.

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES

Facility Setup and Teardown:

●      Assist in preparing tennis courts, including setting up nets and ensuring proper court markings.

●      Organize necessary equipment such as racquets, balls, and court accessories before and after events.

Participant Engagement:

●      Greet and welcome players, ensuring a friendly and inclusive atmosphere.

●      Assist with participant registration, managing lists, and distributing event materials.

Event Support:

●      Support the execution of special events, tournaments, and community outreach programs by coordinating logistics and serving as on-site support.

●      Assist with the flow of activities at events, as directed by Tennis staff, ensuring everything runs on time and efficiently.

Communication and Promotion:

●      Facilitate communication between participants, coaches, and program coordinators to ensure everyone is informed about schedules and events.

●      Engage in promotional activities such as distributing flyers, sharing events on social media, and encouraging participation within the community.

Health and Safety:

●      Ensure that all safety protocols are followed during events.

●      Monitor environmental conditions and report any safety hazards to program coordinators.

Feedback and Improvement:

●      Gather participant feedback to provide insights for future program improvements.

●      Participate in debrief sessions post-events to discuss successes and areas for improvement.

 

QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS

  • A genuine interest in tennis and the ability to engage with players of all ages and skill levels.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing situations during events.
  • Proactive and able to work independently or as part of a team.

·       Basic knowledge of tennis is advantageous but not required.

·       Must pass a background check and abide by HRCA policies.

FACILITIES and SCHEDULES 

Facilities:

·       Northridge Tennis Pavillion (Indoor/outdoor),

·       Southridge Recreation Center (outdoor)

·       Westridge Pickleball Courts (outdoor)

Schedules:

·       Programming at the Tennis Pavillion runs from 9:00am -9:00pm Monday-Friday and 8:00-2:30 on Saturdays.

·       Southridge and Westridge will run summer programming and camps from 6/1/26-8/1/26 - during daytime hours.

Board members help guide the strategic direction of the Highlands Ranch Community Association by supporting high-quality services, fostering community engagement, and promoting sustainable growth.

Responsibilities include:

  • Attending monthly and special meetings

  • Participating in community events

  • Overseeing special projects that benefit residents

  • Understanding and fulfilling the duties of a director

  • Reviewing and contributing to the annual budget process

  • Ensuring financial stability and enhancing the quality of life in Highlands Ranch

Requirements:

  • Must pass a background check before volunteering

  • Lead coaches must be 18 years or older

  • High school students under 18 may serve as assistant coaches under the supervision of an adult coach

Minimum Commitment:

  • Weekly one-hour practice (evenings, between 4–9 p.m.) at one of HRCA’s four recreation centers

  • Saturday games during the season

  • Practice times are scheduled around volunteer coach availability

  • Completion of the application and background check is required for all positions

As a Youth Sports Volunteer Coach, you’ll guide athletes in grades 1–8 while promoting skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

The Highlands Ranch Community Association (HRCA) offers opportunities for Douglas County residents ages 15 and older to complete court-ordered community service hours for minor offenses. Volunteering with HRCA not only fulfills restitution requirements but also provides a chance to give back to the Highlands Ranch community.

Typical Tasks Include:

  • Assisting with community event setup and clean-up

  • Supporting staff with basic event operations

  • Other general service tasks as assigned

Did you know Highlands Ranch is divided into 94 Delegate Districts? Each district is represented by a Delegate, elected or appointed to serve as the voice of their neighborhood within the Highlands Ranch Community Association (HRCA).

Delegate Responsibilities Include:

  • Attending monthly Delegate meetings

  • Voting on key community matters that affect HRCA operations and facilities

  • Approving bylaws and proposing assessment changes

  • Reviewing and advising on improvements to recreational amenities

  • Representing neighbors and bringing their concerns to HRCA leadership

Therapeutic Recreation Positions

HRCA Therapeutic Recreation Programs are intended to enhance the quality of life of individuals with special needs. Programs are facilitated by Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists and/or qualified staff. We provide a quality and compassionate community-based environment for participants of all ages and abilities.

By participating in recreation and leisure activities, individuals enjoy a healthier more fulfilled lifestyle and a deeper sense of belonging and involvement in the community.  We work towards social independence in a fun and safe environment, while encouraging a general sense of health, wellness, and improved quality of life. 

By volunteering for the HRCA Therapeutic Recreation Program you will be making a difference and positively impacting the life of a person with a disability. 

Requirements:

  • Must pass a background check before volunteering

  • Volunteers must be 15 years or older

Minimum Commitment:

  • Volunteers are asked to attend the full duration of the specific program

  • Most activities run monthly

  • Special Olympics Sports: 1–2 days per week for 2 months

  • Camps: 5 days straight or 2 days per week sessions

  • Dances and Events: a few hours each

  • Other programs may vary in length and frequency

  • Adaptive classes: hip hop, taekwondo, and yoga
