Spring in Colorado is a unique time of year. Because 2024 is a leap year, this year's spring equinox arrived early, on March 19, the earliest since 1896. Spring in Colorado is always quirky and unpredictable, much like a lottery drawing with daily temperatures that range from 8, 65, 13, 53 to 25.
Like in previous years, the Highlands Ranch Community Association (HRCA) is encouraging residents to do more by doing less…lawn mowing that is! “No Mow May”, is a simple concept that recommends reducing the frequency of mowing during May. Skipping some or all turf trims for the month will reduce the water your grass needs. It’s proven that taller turf develops a stronger root system enabling your lawn to withstand drought better when the warmer summer months arrive.
With the talk of water conversation comes the discussion of sod alternatives like Xeriscape, artificial turf and low-maintenance ground cover. I’m thrilled to announce that HRCA’s Board was selected in March as noted below.
Monica Wasden, Todd Landgrave and Leo Stegman will serve three-year terms, expiring March 2027. Dan DeBacco will serve a one-year term, expiring March 2025. A special thank you to our Board candidates for their participation in the election and their continued volunteerism that helps make HRCA one of the best community associations in the country.
I want to give a special thanks to Melissa Park for her fourteen years of service to HRCA. Melissa has been an incredibly active member of the Highlands Ranch community since beginning her service as chair of the Backcountry Planning Area Committee from 2010 - 14. She spent the next decade as a dedicated member of HRCA’s Board of Directors. I would be remiss not to take the time to thank her for her enormous dedication to making Highlands Ranch a better place to work and live.
With spring in full swing and summer just around the corner don’t forget about all the fun and exciting upcoming events HRCA hosts right in your backyard including the Highlands Ranch Farmers’ Market, every Sunday throughout the spring, summer and fall, the Cans Festival and the Fourth of July Parade and Fireworks. Tickets for the 2024 Beer Fest go on sale Monday, May 6, the Summer Concert Series lineup is out now, and the 19th annual HRCA Car Show will be held on Saturday, June 1…to name a few.
