Fence Stain/Color FAQs

The physical appearance of a community is the first opportunity to make a positive impression and well-kept streets, yards, and fences all promote a vision of community health, pride, and vitality. Further, a clean and aesthetically pleasing neighborhood increases property values. To keep Highlands Ranch looking its best the fences need to be stained and maintained.

Fence Stain FAQs

Are all fences included, or just the public facing fences?

Staining shall pertain to the staining of any homeowner’s fencing or part of a fence which faces or abuts a street, another front yard, park, or school property. This includes wing fences which are in between the front of homeowner homes.  Affected fences include both “open” (including split rail fences) and solid wood fences as described in the HRCA Residential Improvement Guidelines (RIGs).  Rear yard interior fences and/or rear yard fences between neighbors are not required to be stained.  Open space fencing is not required to be stained.

If you are unsure who owns your fence, or if your fence is maintained by the Highlands Ranch Metro District, please call our office at 303-471-8821. Or check the Metro Districts web site for fencing they maintain.
