Does your high school student want to spend the summer and/or their school breaks adventuring outdoors, teaching and playing with kids? Our Leader-in-Training program gives high school students training, mentorship, and real-life experiences to sharpen their organization, social, and responsibility skills. LITs earn volunteer hours along with first-hand professional experience.
How to Apply: There is no application, however each interested LIT is required to write a letter of interest to the Camp Director. The letter of interest must include the following in order for an LIT to be considered for the program: why you want to spend your summer/break as an LIT, what and how you will contribute to our LIT program, what unique traits you will bring to your peer team, and how you think the LIT program will be beneficial to you. LITs must be formally accepted into the program before they may register. Slots are competitive and will be filled on a rolling basis. All LITs must commit to a minimum of two weeks with Camp Backcountry.
2019-2020 Off-Season LIT Program: LITs that participated in our summer 2019 program may register for any of our off-season sessions during the 2019-2020 school year. New LITs must submit a letter of interest by the first day of the month that they wish to participate in any off-season session.
Summer 2020 LIT Program: Letters of interest will be accepted between December 1, 2019 and April 10, 2020.
