Backcountry Wilderness Area

The Backcountry Wilderness Area of Highlands Ranch is 8,200 acres of open space owned and managed by the HRCA. The Backcountry is home to a wide variety of wildlife, native plants, and birds and is a true gem, right here in our Backyard. The HRCA has 11 miles of private, natural surface trails and there is an additional 12 miles of public Douglas County Trail through the Backcountry.

The HRCA offers a variety of programs to get people out into the heart of the Backcountry, from Elk Bugle hikes, Turkey gobbling vehicle tours, and Youth Adventure Camps.
